Hope for Hiroshima

I have decided to dedicate a poem to Hiroshima, in this blog post. During my visit there, I could feel the sadness of their past. The nuclear bomb that happened here on 6 August 1945 was devastating, as many lives were lost and so many suffered much pain. It was moving for me to see the support Hiroshima received and the millions of paper cranes made in memory of Hiroshima’s beloved men, woman and children tragically lost. May peace be with Hiroshima forevermore.

Harrowing history buried beneath hearts honouring

Innocent lives so precious, lost in the winds of fire

Rest in peace all, under blankets of His love. Thousands of paper cranes

Open the doors to freedom, letting light

Shine through their people

Hope and eternal comfort

In the forthcoming days of their lives

May the sound of peace resonate with their spirit

And the beauty of their homeland, be forever blessed.

Peace be with Hiroshima

TOK MY HEART TO TOKYO

Hustle bustle of everyday life in Tokyo can be seen everywhere you go within the heart of Shibuya. Quiet movements of feet stride and tap against the pavement, where focused faces are put on, determined to reach their destination.

I LOVE TOKYO.

Tokyo is shopping paradise. In all honesty, I have never experienced such an adrenaline rush the moment I set foot in a 100 Yen store. This is where I experienced a shopping ‘high’ I haven’t experienced in so long. My decision making has never been so quick. Good looking, cheap stuff. My eyes were wide with excitement and my mouth just hung open like a fish throughout.

The trains. If you thought squeezing in the train on a London Underground as being hard work. The Japanese make the impossible seem possible with their calm demeanour. And if they can do it, then I can do it, then you can do it too. Mustering much mental preparation and a silent prayer, I walked with confidence and subtly pushed my way into a squishy, tight mass of the Japanese at ease. Thank the heavens above for Air Conditioning..

Apparently , there are rules Japanese people abide by in Transport and for walking down the street. Typically, they are to be quiet on the bus and the train. When it comes to walking down the street, they can talk quietly. It was interesting because Shibuya felt like a quiet murmur in the air compared to cities like London. However there would always be Japanese music or Commercial adverts blasting loud sounds in the centre road crossing, as seen in video below.

Observing Japanese people in Tokyo was interesting. How different my culture is from theirs can be mind blowing sometimes. The way they compose themselves, they blend in with the rest of their society. The collective spirit is strong, as they loyally respect one another’s privacy and space. They are considerate people. Tokyo did have a nice buzz of life and I would definitely come here again. Next stop.. HIROSHIMA.

This was my first time eating a real authentic Don Katsu in Japan and my o my it was amazing. My eyes began to water once I sank my teeth into the chicken so tender, it took me to heaven, and a warm fuzzy feeling of absolute joy spread through my smile as I ate with pleasure. It was a magical moment. Happy food, happy me.

The dog you see behind us, is a very famous dog in Japan. A long queue of people would be willing to wait to take a picture with him. We just took it from our own angle 🙂
Here is a little information from the ‘lonely planet’ website.
‘Meet Tokyo’s most famous pooch, Hachikō. This Akita dog came to Shibuya Station every day to meet his master, a professor, returning from work. After the professor died in 1925, Hachikō continued to come to the station daily until his own death nearly 10 years later. The story became legendary and a small statue was erected in the dog’s memory in front of Shibuya Station.’
A beautiful story. Dogs are special, I must say.

INTRODUCTION TO JAPAN

My month in Japan has been simply amazing. The richness in their culture can be felt through their own people, whereby respect for one another resides strongly to this day forward. I was here with 4 other Europeans and a Nigerian, as we could be involved in different activities such as the Peace Road and Ocean Challenge. We were fortunate to experience so much, my fingers and toes are twinkling with excitement at the thought of sharing my personal reflection with you all.

The moment I stepped foot on Japan, I felt a flood of warmth and love from them. They made us feel welcome. Even though there was a language barrier between us, their enthusiasm of wanting us to feel at home could be felt through their smiles and their endearing body language as well as their respective efforts to say an English word or two. (We were lucky to have a Taiwanese lady, who could speak Japanese and translate for us :)).

I personally find Japanese people to be rather intriguing as there is an element of mystery to what they are really like beneath the surface. On the other hand, an attitude to serve was immensely felt through out my journey in the blessed land of Japan. I will share more in detail later, how I perceived Japanese people ;).

I will touch upon a few of my major highlights in Japan into 3 parts, 1. Tokyo and Hiroshima 2.Kumamoto and 3. Fukuoka, with some photos displayed throughout. I hope you enjoy what I am about to share with you, as I take you on a journey to a special place I will never forget.

Thankyou to my dear friend Satoko San for the translation. I am so grateful!!

A Poem for Japan

Walk under the skies of their homeland

And they will spread their wings

And stretch as far as their love will go

Through mountains high

The evergreen land echoes beneath their feet

Let rivers flow

Let rivers flow

Gentle voices of their spirit sing

Among the pure beauty

Everlasting

Humbled I am by

Japan-

Magnificent views

Surround

Me.

Off to the land of Sakura, Samurais, Geishas and serene beauty at its finest..Ohiyo Japan

Hello everyone, I thought I would let you all know that I am going to Japan for the whole of July. I am ever so excited because I have been wanting to go to this country for so long. Japan fascinates me. There is so much to their culture, their attitudes toward day to day living. From the Japanese people I have been fortunate to know, they present themselves in a serving, gentle manner. I feel they are strong willed and anchor their beliefs and values to the heart of where they are from. Their home, Japan. I have deep respect for Japanese people because not only can many of them be so sweet, they are hard working and radiate a warmth, in their smiles. I’ve been blessed to know such amazing Japanese people in my life to this day forward.

In the month of July, I am going to be participating in a project with a group of individuals from Europe with Japanese students. Through interactions on self development and spiritual growth, I hope to understand this culture better. We will also being doing other activities together like service projects and sightseeing. I am not the organiser, so I don’t know the details. But I look forward to sharing with you, when I have the chance, to share with you what we have been up to.

I am super excited.

I really am.
