Let’s not forget the true meaning of Christmas

An early expression of this sentiment using the phrase of “the true meaning” is found in The American magazine, vol. 28 (1889): “to give up one’s very self – to think only of others – how to bring the greatest happiness to others – that is the true meaning of Christmas.”

When I went shopping today in my local town, i was overwhelmed by the immensity of consumerism flooding through the streets and within the shopping centre. Bags and bags of presents soon to be wrapped carried by people filled with determination to get their Christmas shopping done. And it made me reflect on the meaning of Christmas and whether we forget the significance behind it.

According to sources, “Christmas is a time of spiritual reflection on the important foundations of the Christian faith. It’s also a celebration. It’s when Christians celebrate God’s love for the world through the birth of the Christ child: Jesus.”

It is during this time where by we think of one another, through self less acts of giving and spreading joy and happiness. It is a sentimental time of year we all look forward to. However big or small the presents are, or no presents, ultimately it falls down upon the love you have for your family and friends that is celebrated during this time.

It’s been a difficult year for us all with COVID 19 and many of you, including myself may have had other difficulties in addition to this. It is hard to be happy, it is hard to celebrate this time of year when there is adversity, but with a collective spirit can we support one another. Let us be there for those who are lonely at Christmas. Let us spare a thought for those who are dealing with grief of losing a loved one. Let us be mindful of those who are going through tough times. Through love and the self less act of giving can we make the world a brighter place, for we could all do with a bit of light during these times.

Finally, this time of year is a time of appreciation and gratitude for each other. Think of the key workers and frontline workers battling the pandemic. Think of the people who have inspired you and gave you a spring in your step. Think of the smiles exchanged with family, friends or colleagues, or neighbours, the shop assistant or your bus driver. Think of the tears you have shed and the ones who have caught them with compassion and empathy. You are not alone. You are so loved. And you are worthy of love. I am grateful for my family and friends and all of you who have been following my blog. Have a wonderful Christmas everyone, keep safe, God Bless,

Big love, Miranda xx

P.S There may be one last blog post before 2020 ends, keep your eyes peeled open 🙂

A Christmas poem

The flicker of a candle

Awakens the evening shadow

Christmas reveals itself with dazzle, dazzle, dazzle

Dress the trees with baubles and drape them with

Fairy lights

As they glisten ~ what a wondrous sight

A season of sentiment where one values togetherness

Of family, friends~ a time well spent

Light hearted vibes spread through the walls

The walls of our neighbours

To the hearts of our loved ones

The season for giving is planted in each soul

A soul to embrace those who seek comfort

Weathered by hardship

For

Love is powerful

Love is compassion

Love is invincible

Warming us from the mini corner of our heart

To the tip of our twinkling toes

May the starry skies in your eyes

Melt away the worries and the woes

May blessings come your way

And happiness follow.
